Homemade Ranch Dip and Dressing

Food can be the best medicine, but it can also be the slowest form of poison.

Who doesn’t love fresh crisp veggies dipped in “ranch” dressing? However, if you’re currently using Hidden Valley Ranch or any other commercial dressing, you will want to look at the nutritional information.

So what’s in Hidden Valley Ranch dressing? Low quality GMO soybean or canola oil, sugar, modified food starch, monosodium glutamate/MSG (a known nerve Excitotoxin), artificial flavors (which could mean anything) and a bunch of other garbage. What happened to real food?

Try this instead:
Ranch Dip
1 cup high quality mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream*
1 T dried parsley flakes
½ T dried minced onion
2 t garlic powder
2 t dried dill weed (I usually add more)
2 T Italian seasoning herbs
2 t Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar with the “mother”
Salt and pepper if desired

Combine mayonnaise and sour cream and/or yogurt, then add remaining ingredients, allow to chill for 1 hour (overnight is even better). Enjoy!

For Ranch Dressing: If you’re after a thinner dressing instead of a thicker dip, you can add 2-3 Tablespoons of pickle juice or a bit of buttermilk – the pickle juice adds just the right amount of twang. Both thin down the recipe for a pourable dressing to use on salads. Just make sure you’re using good-quality pickles (avoid those with Polysorbate 80 and food dyes) – you can even ferment your own pickles for added health benefits.

*Substitutions: instead of sour cream, you may substitute plain yogurt like “Nancy’s” (use full-fat, no low-fat stuff!).
